Kim aka Odd Hogg has a wonderfully effortless style. Although she says ‘makeup is not her forte’ her photos attest that her incredible natural beauty would shine through regardless. Any reader of her blog – the Odd Hogg – will know that this beauty runs a lot deeper. She has a wonderful take on life and a very tongue in cheek sense of humour that often has me cackling with laughter as I read her posts.
Kim is an ally in blogging as a fellow Scot – although she resides in my previous stomping ground in the North East it’s nice to know she’s not far away. It’s been wonderful to follow her life as a first time mum to ‘Piglet’ and as her and her husband Jonathan, attempt to renovate their home together. Although she has her own struggles (I’m pretty sure Type 1 Diabetes is no fun really!) I love her outlook and would totally advise you read on… and then check out her blog too!
What is your daily skincare routine?
I am awful with skincare. I really do very little. I wash my face in the shower usually, and then use a Clarins cleanser and toner combined. I apply moisturiser in the morning most days and if I remember I reapply before bed as my face is always really dry.
Do you wear make-up? What’s your routine?
Make-up is not my forte. I apply mascara and lippy every day and that’s about it. I have crazy blonde eye-brows which you can’t really see, so if I haven’t had them tinted in a while I draw them on too.
What do you do to style and care for your hair?
I wash my hair every second day. I am lucky that I have very soft hair, but it is also very thick. I don’t generally bother to blow dry it unless I wash it straight before going out as it takes so long. It’s often found braided or tied back. If it has dried before I go out I like to straighten it.
Before I had Piglet I had 10 inches of my hair cut off and donated. I used to always curl it before I had the chop. Now that it is getting longer again I am finding myself reaching for the curlers more and more.
What’s your go-to ‘everyday’ outfit?
Jeans and a jumper! I love my Selfish Mother jumper which JHogg bought me for Christmas last year. My jeans are all from American Eagle and have seen better days. Most have holes in them, or are now a size too big as I bought them 3 years ago – how insane is that?! I need to go back to the US so I can get some more.
Where do you shop?
I’m not too fussy about where I shop. I tend to fall back on Primark more and more these days as it’s affordable. I do love Next, but more often than not I ended up buying my clothes from George at ASDA!
Do you have an all-time favourite item of clothing?
Hmmm I don’t think I do actually. I don’t tend to get attached to clothing in that way.
What was the most expensive item of clothing you’ve ever bought?
My wedding dress! Hands down the most expensive item. Other than that it would probably be a Barbour jacket.
How do you change your look for a date night?
For a start, I’d actually make some effort! I will usually apply a little more make-up, some foundation and often false lashes. I like having an excuse to wear a dress and pop on some heels. Even if I do look a bit like Bambi on ice in them these days!
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
When Piglet reaches for me. When he seeks me out because he just wants to be near me – it makes my heart melt.
Speaking of children, how do you like to dress your kids?
We have been really lucky and been given loads of clothes for Piglet – so his style is large dictated by that. My favourite items are definitely his dungarees.
Have you got any ‘life-hacks’ for busy Mums?
Even you’ve run out of dry shampoo, Talc can do pretty much the same thing…… but be careful how much you put in if you’re not blonde as it can look a bit funny!
Can you think of an occasion that you felt the most beautiful?
Definitely my wedding day – that’s the benefit of having someone else do your make-up though isn’t it?
Who is your style icon?
Errr I don’t think I have one!
Is there anything you want to change about your style?
I want my hair to be different – but I don’t know what I want! I have an appointment at the end of May with the Salon Director and I’m hoping he’ll be able to advise me on what will work with my hair.
If you’re having a tough day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
Bar of chocolate every time! If I’m feeling stressed in general though I like to go and get my eyebrows done and paint my nails etc. Helps me feel like I’ve got my sh*t together!
Thank you, Kim!
