One of my blogging icons is Laura, of the beautiful blog Five Little Doves. Despite life being far from easy at times, her take on life is always refreshingly honest yet cheerful and upbeat. Her photos of life in Lancashire with her beautiful children so reflect the love that she has for her family. Here, Laura shares her love of skinny jeans and her secret for turning a bad day into a good one…
What is your daily skincare routine?
I would love to tell you that I had some elaborate cleanse, tone and moisturise regime, but sadly I rely mainly on baby wipes to give my face clean at the end of each day, and each morning too!
Do you wear make-up? What’s your routine?
On a daily basis I only ever wear a quick coat of mascara, mainly to try and make myself look less tired. I have never worn a lot of make up and even on a night out I would just use a bit of bronzer, a little eyeshadow, mascara and a clear lipgloss. I’m very low maintenance!
What do you do to style and care for your hair?
I have my hair coloured every 6-8 weeks, just my roots usually and a freshen up of my ombre. On a daily basis I never style my hair, I wear it up in a “Mum bun” 7 days a week, and only ever style it if I am going out OUT!
What’s your go-to ‘everyday’ outfit?
Skinny jeans, a checked shirt or jumper and ankle boots. In Summer I switch it up with skinny jeans, a vest and flip flops. I literally live in my jeans!
Where do you shop?
I shop at ASOS, Miss Selfridge, River Island and Dorothy Perkins mainly. I prefer shops where I can order on-line!
Do you have an all-time favourite item of clothing?
Other than my wedding dress, and even then I’m not sure if that would even beat this, it’s my dressing gown!! If I’m at home you can guarantee that I’ll be wearing it, day or night, my friends often joke that it is surgically attached!
What was the most expensive item of clothing you’ve ever bought?
My wedding dress. It was £1800 and I often can’t believe that we spent so much on a dress I wore just once.
How do you change your look for a date night?
Well I still wear my jeans, but I’ll wear a nice top and heels, and make an effort with my hair and make up.
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
Just those little moments that we share when I genuinely have to pinch myself that all of these little people are really mine. The cuddles and kisses and days they make me proud, I love it all.
Speaking of children, how do you like to dress your kids?
It’s no surprise that the children wear jeans a lot too! The girls tend to wear jeans and a t-shirt, or jumper dresses and tights, and in the Summer lots of pretty dresses. My boys wear jeans all year round, if not regular jeans then short jeans in the Summer! I have a real dislike for character clothing, although my kids LOVE it, so we do try to avoid it when possible!
Have you got any ‘life-hacks’ for busy Mums?
Sadly not, but with four children I am always open to hearing about anything that makes my life easier. I am SO disorganised!
Can you think of an occasion that you felt the most beautiful?
My wedding day(s) without a doubt. I think it’s impossible to wear a wedding dress and not feel beautiful, I wish I could wear it every day!
Who is your style icon?
Jessica Alba, she is just stunningly beautiful and so understated, I would kill for her wardrobe.
Is there anything you want to change about your style?
I’d love to mix it up a little more but for me, it’s more of a time thing. I tell myself when the kids are grown I will go back to being stylish!
If you’re having a tough day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
Eat chocolate, drink wine and watch reality TV!
Thank you, Laura!
